The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Records Administrator handles open records requests made to the Office of the Harris County Fire Marshal. Individuals seeking documents maintained by the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office should submit those requests to the Records Administrator.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is dedicated to delivering 100% compliance with our adopted Fire Code. This web-based service will aggregate, track and streamline the collection of compliance data of our jurisdiction’s systems.

Property owners will receive timely proactive notifications of their testing requirements, and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office will gain the ability to better mitigate the risk in our community by improving public safety to our citizens.

All service providers who inspect or test fire protection systems within the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office jurisdictionare required to register and submit all test, inspection and service reports via The Compliance Engine. All reports must be submitted in accordance with the testing schedule and requirements outlined in our adopted fire code.

Harris County Compliance Assessment

Compliance assessments are performed to determine if products conform to the presently adopted fire code and other recognized national standards.

Fire Reports

The Harris County Fire Marshal is the authority having jurisdiction for maintaining fire records in unincorporated Harris County. Please call or visit during office hours to request a fire report.

  • We require the location and date of the fire. There is no charge for the public record as of April 1, 2002.
  • A copy of the detail report is available if the case is closed as an accidental fire.
  • There is a fee for photos if available.
  • You must visit during business hours.

Inspection Records

The HCFMO uses an inspection letter to indicate the current status of an inspection. Each letter is an “evergreen” document and changes each time there is a change of information. The letter includes the following about an inspection:

  • Current status of an inspection (compliant, nocompliant etc.).
  • Outstanding deficiencies at this particular occupancy.
The letter does NOT indicate:
  • Original status of an inspection.
  • Listing of corrected deficiencies.
  • Location or severity of each deficiency.
  • Deficiencies found during previous inspections.
  • Deficiencies at other occupancies at the same address location(i.e. strip center w/ multiple businesses).

Duplicate or Replacement Documents

In accordance with the revised fee schedule effective June 1, 2019, there is a $65 fee for each duplicate or replacement of Certificate of Inspection, Certificate of Compliance or Maximum Approved Occupant Load Certificate. To request a duplicate or replacement document, please complete the Request for Duplicate or Replacement Documents form. This form must be completed and accompanied with a $65 cashier’s check or money order made out to the Harris County Fire Marshal at one of the following addresses:
