Unclaimed Property

Effective date: September 1, 2025

In accordance with Article 18.17 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office Property and Evidence Room maintains a list of items considered abandoned or unclaimed property.

This webpage provides public notice of those items and outlines the process for rightful owners to claim their property. If you believe the item listed belongs to you, please review the instructions provided for submitting a claim.

If the owner does not claim this property before the 90th day after the date of this notice, the property will be disposed of in a manner as described in Article 18.17.

For found property, bicycles, and stolen recovered property, claimant may provide proof of ownership in any of the following ways:

  • Verify the serial number of the item.
  • Present a dated receipt of purchase of the item.
  • Present a prior stolen/lost property report with a police agency for the item.
  • Show a photograph with him/herself and the item in it.
  • Describe unique characteristics of the item.
  • Provide an access code or combination to unlock the item.

Claimant must also present a valid driver’s license or state issued photo ID card.
