Training & Education

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office Training section is a multi-purpose emergency services training provider. This has been accomplished by using our staff and training partners to develop curriculum, design and construct real world training props as well as incorporating the highest level of safety into our programs. The result of this is training that is safe and of the highest quality that can be provided.

The HCFMO Training Field can provide both classroom and hands-on Hazardous Material Training for over-the-road trucking, rail, and pipeline incidents. Our facility also has the capacity to do rescue training, both high-angle and confined space, using the rescue tower structure. The burn building attached to the rescue tower is perfect for multi-level interior firefighting.

The training campus also has three classrooms available for use with full audio visual components and seat between 30 and 50 students.

We do the very best we can to grow and expand our facilities to meet the needs of emergency response agencies and personnel.

Additional Services and Information

In addition to the campus’ role in in providing state-of-the-art instruction and training techniques, the role of the Academy during emergency operations is to (1) support ongoing emergency operations, and (2) function as a secure staging and/or command and control base of operations in support of local emergency operations. In large-scale emergencies with state and federal assistance (United Search & Rescue teams, D-MAT field hospitals, etc.) the facility can be used for staging and operations areas away from Transtar and affected areas. The facility is secure, has good access, multiple meeting rooms, showers and other sanitary facilities, and has the space to feed and house up to 200 people.

HCFMO facilities are available for use by any fire department, law enforcement agency, EMS agency and industrial company in and around Harris County.

The HCFMO Training Division is committed to excellence in education and is willing to customize training and provide suggestions in facility usage that will best fit the needs of our partners. We call everyone a partner because in emergency response we are all on the same team.
