School Safety Toolbox

Established in 2006, the Harris County Fire Marshal's School Inspection Team was created in response to concerns raised by residents and the Commissioners Court regarding the safety of school facilities in unincorporated Harris County, Texas.

Our main objective is to perform comprehensive inspections in every school building throughout the county. The team has made significant strides in improving fire safety in educational institutions, thanks to our strong partnerships with school districts, charter schools, and private schools. We prioritize the safety of our students and faculty by working closely with all stakeholders to implement effective measures. Whether it's lockdowns, evacuations, or shelter-in-place operations, we are dedicated to mitigating potential hazards.

We aim to create secure environments that allow schools to focus on educating the younger generation without worrying about safety concerns. We are committed to this cause and will continue to strive for excellence in safeguarding our educational institutions by taking proactive measures.

The Texas Education Agency is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education. It is headed by the commissioner of education. The Texas Education Agency improves outcomes for all public school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

The Campus Safety and Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool is brought to you by the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. This analysis cutting tool was designed to provide rapid customized reports for public inquiries relating to campus crime and fire data.

Texas School Safety Center

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. Specifically, the TxSSC serves as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas.
