Common Mistake:
While the mailing address of the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is "Atascocita", the office is physically located about 1/4 mile away from Atascocita Road off of Ygnacio Rd. We strongly suggest you download this map before visiting our office. To help you on your way, we have placed a sign on Atascocita road pointing to our main office.

Fourth HazMat Shift
Harris County HazMat is proud to announce that they have completed their transition to a new twenty-four hour shift schedule effective Saturday, March 13, 2010. The new schedule adds a fourth shift for HCHMRT and provides constant 24 hour staffing at the Harris County HazMat Station. A full 24 hour/365 day response capability enables HMRT to provide the “best possible customer service”. Benefits of the new staffing approach include enhanced Hazardous Materials/WMD response, reduced response times, and an overall reduction in overtime cost.

The Emergency Operations Branch, also known as the HazMat group, is responsible for planning, mitigation and recovery from emergencies and disasters, whether natural, accidental or deliberate act.

The branch is staffed by Hazardous Materials Technicians. They respond to incidents for identification and control of hazardous materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction, support local fire and law enforcement in hazardous spills and releases, and perform safety inspections of facilities that store, sell or use hazardous materials. They also assists in investigative efforts where hazardous materials and WMDs are involved. Technicians also train local first responders on how to deal with hazardous materials and WMD situations.
